Selling Books to Grave Matters

What We Buy

We are always buying older mystery and detective fiction first printings and reprints in jacket. We also buy some older mysteries without dust jackets. All must be in very good or better condition. We are particularly interested in acquiring Golden Age mysteries and Sherlockiana. Mystery reference material and older mystery magazines are also of interest to us. Vintage paperbacks in very good or better condition are increasingly difficult to find and we welcome them. We are interested in large print books in very good condition in both hardback and trade paperback. We are also interested in trade paperbacks of newer titles. Mass market paperbacks need to be tight, in very good or better condition with no cover creases and have no markings other than the owner's name.

We have little interest in thrillers or suspense (including romantic suspense). We seldom buy x-library books and we have limited interest in book club titles even if they have dust jackets since we can easily acquire these elsewhere.

Your Options

If you have books you would like to sell us, there are a couple of ways to do it. Most people just send us a box to evaluate. Or you may send us a list of what you have. Please include author, title, edition and condition of both book and dust jacket. This gives us an idea of what you have, but we cannot offer a price until we evaluate the books. Please make prior arrangements with us if you desire a check instead of credit for your books.

What We Pay

We determine price first by how much we need the title and then by edition and condition. First printings of older hardbacks in very good or better condition with like dust jacket are worth the most to us. We are always looking for difficult to find titles or special authors (Rex Stout, R. Austin Freeman, Anthony Berkley, Manning Coles, Frances Crane, etc.).

If you have vintage paperbacks, please send us a list which includes author, title, book number, book edition and condition and we'll go from there. We define vintage as editions which originally sold for .10-.35 in most instances.

For mass market paperbacks we pay depending on their desirability and how much we need them. We do not need Agatha Christie paperbacks except for vintage editions, for example. If you have questions, please let us know.

Shipping

We reimburse you for media mail shipping. Books must be packed carefully into heavy boxes (double-sided are the best). Stuff clean paper (not newspaper) to fill all air spaces. Please do not use styrofoam. Use tape to secure all openings adequately. Ship media mail to our post office box so they'll be out of the weather if we are away.

We like to buy in quantity when we can because it is more efficient for you and for us. For entire libraries or collections we can make special arrangements. We very much appreciate your selling your books to us and we try to be fair and complete in our evaluation. If you have questions, please email us.
